*Telangana State Midday Meal Scheme Workers Union AITUC One-Day Fast*

Nirmal, 16 September
Dabang Sahafat

As part of a one‑day fast held in front of the Nirmal District Collector’s office, AITUC district president Bhukya Ramesh said that the centralized kitchen system should be abolished, and that the pending nine‑month bills for the 2023‑2024 period should be released immediately. He demanded that the newly launched mid‑day meal scheme be operated solely by cooking staff. Street‑level regulations for the meals should be announced. The government should supply all items for the cooking scheme, including gas. Pending bills for June, July and August across the district should be released. The mid‑day meals provided to students this academic year should be handed over to the kitchen workers. The promise made by the Congress after coming to power to give cooking staff Rs 10,000 must be implemented at once. The government should issue identity cards to cooking staff and implement a hazard‑insurance scheme. Cooking staff should not be removed for any political or other reasons. A surcharge of Rs 25 per student should be paid. Therefore, the aforementioned problems must be resolved immediately; otherwise, relay fasting protests will be organized in October.

The event was attended by district midday‑meal leader Chityal Lakshmi, Ankam Rajith Farjana, Lalitha Sravanthi, Narasava Ramana, Sayann Latif, cooking workers from all mandals, AITUC leaders and others.
