The tradition of performing worship for the Varalakshmi vrata while holding a kalash is observed in many households. A coconut is placed on the kalash atop the altar, and a piece of cloth is wrapped around it in a triangular shape and tied with a knot for decoration. Thus, the goddess Varalakshmi is invoked.
