The month of Rabi’ al-awwal is the blessed month in which the best of humanity, the Prophet (peace be upon him), was born, and it is also the month in which he departed from this mortal world.

Just as other nations celebrate the birth of their religious figures with great fanfare, a large number of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent have also begun to do so, because as soon as the month of Rabi’ al-awwal begins, the process of holding the Prophet’s birthday (Mawlid) procession and organizing the street celebration (Jashn‑e‑Chirag) in the neighborhoods starts, and the streets are decorated, even though the hearts of people towards each other are becoming increasingly narrow on the basis of faith.

Thus, a never‑ending cycle of extravagance and unnecessary extravagance begins, which has no end.

It is deeply regrettable that scholars appear in front of one another, even though hadiths state that scholars are the heirs of the Prophet; they should have tried to convey to Muslims, as soon as the month of Rabi’ al-awwal begins, that they should study the life of the Prophet (Sira) in depth and then implement it in their practical lives, thereby showing the world what a follower of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) looks like – a paragon of morality – and people should attempt to know the blessed essence of the Prophet by seeing him.

In the Qur’an, Allah Almighty says about the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him): “We have sent you as a mercy to all worlds.” And in this world, not only Muslims reside and live; people of other faiths also live here.
